Stirling is embracing the full fibre revolution

Stirling is set to transform into a world leading digital hub, as one of the first cities in the UK to benefit from the new Vodafone and CityFibre fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) programme. The city’s existing 24km full fibre network – which was launched in 2017 to connect the city’s schools, libraries and community venues – will be expanded citywide to reach nearly every home and business in Stirling.

For the first time residents across Stirling will have access to gigabit-speed broadband services of up to 1000Mbps from Vodafone, and businesses will be able to connect and enjoy the same from specialist providers.

As part of this first phase deployment, a detailed planning and city build programme is underway and work will begin on extending the city's full fibre network later this year.

Every part of the city to benefit

Your questions answered

Although many services in the UK are dubbed as ‘fibre broadband’, this term is typically used to describe services delivered using “fibre to the cabinet” (FTTC) technology – meaning the last stretch of network from the street cabinet into your home uses capacity-constrained copper cable, which acts as a bottle-neck and significantly reduces the speeds you are able to access in your home.

Full fibre networks transmit data in the form of light down glass fibre-optic cables for the entire connection into your home. With no ageing copper in the network, you’ll receive lightning fast and reliable broadband services capable of Gigabit speeds (1,000Mbps).

With a full fibre broadband connection into your home, you’ll experience seamless connectivity over all your connected devices – even when they are streaming, downloading and playing all at once. You’ll be able to fully embrace the new generation of “smart home” applications to enhance your daily life and remote home working will become effortless with instant and reliable access to the cloud.

Outside your home, CityFibre’s full fibre infrastructure will be supporting wide-scale digital transformation throughout Stirling – enabling schools, health and social care, businesses and public services as well as bringing the potential for vastly improved mobile network services. It will make Stirling more innovative, more productive and give a digital boost to the overall economy.

Vodafone will market and sell ultrafast, full fibre, gigabit-capable services to residents as the CityFibre network is deployed. When you place a full fibre order with Vodafone, they’ll arrange for CityFibre to connect your property to the fibre network running through your street.

Vodafone will be announcing their products and services in due course. If you would like to be kept up to date with any project related announcements, you can register your interest here.

Vodafone will market and sell ultrafast, full fibre services to residents that are capable of Gigabit speeds (1,000 Mbps). Products and pricing will be announced in due course. If you’d like to find out more about Vodafone’s Gigabit broadband services, click here.

We’ll be undertaking a wide-scale construction project throughout Stirling to expand our network to reach almost every premise in the city. The result will be a fit-for-purpose and future-proof digital infrastructure that will provide huge and wide-ranging benefits to the entire community for years to come.

We’ll make every effort to minimise disruption wherever possible, working closely with local authorities, utilising modern construction techniques and constructing in footpaths where possible to avoid disrupting traffic flow. Although the build of a city-wide network can take years, the amount of time we spend in any one road is likely to be just a few days.

We’ll notify you in advance of any construction planned to take place in your street – ensuring you have the details you need of exactly what is happening and when.

If you register your interest, we’ll keep you up to date with any developments on the project or announcements regarding services in your area. If you are making a residential enquiry, we’ll also share your details with Vodafone so that they can keep you updated with any announcements on products and pricing. If you haven’t already registered your interest, you can do so here.
