Bristol business community celebrates ‘Gig-aversary’

23 August 2017

Bristol’s Gigabit City status has reached its first anniversary thanks to a partnership between CityFibre and Triangle Networks. The collaboration is the first to bring Gigabit City status to Bristol overhauling its connectivity from the inside out. To date, over 80 businesses have benefited from the initiative to future-proof the city’s digital capabilities, driving economic growth and boosting competitiveness and productivity across local enterprise. Thousands of businesses are within reach of the Gigabit City network. With 69km of full-fibre infrastructure running beneath the city streets, past Filton to Almondsbury and across the city centre, Bristol has been transformed into one of the best connected cities on the planet. Partnering with Triangle Networks to offer ultrafast connectivity, with speeds up to 100 faster than the UK’s average, CityFibre’s network has enabled a number of Bristol businesses to revolutionise the way they do business, no longer held back by the likes of bandwidth restraints. With a thriving creative scene across the city, production firm Wildseed Studios were one of the first companies to gain a gigabit boost. They say ultrafast connectivity has transformed how they do business with their global partners. Chris Pearless, Networking Manager at Wildseed explained: “The gigabit connection has given us flexibility. Instead of days, we can now make changes in hours. It’s added an agility and quality to our production we haven’t seen before.” As well as embracing new technologies, Gigabit City infrastructure will provide businesses with ultrafast speeds up to 100 times faster than the UK’s average, it’s more resilient than legacy copper infrastructure and is capable of meeting our connectivity needs for years to come as our work and lives move increasingly online. Nick Gray, City Development Manager, CityFibre said: “With our thirst for connectivity growing larger ever day Bristol is well placed to make the most of its full-fibre infrastructure. The city is recognised as one of the most digitally advanced in the UK and world class connectivity will only enhance the city’s capabilities. “It’s been great to welcome businesses to the network from key industries across the city. Bristol is truly embracing the full-fibre revolution and it’s great to see.” Working in partnership with CityFibre, local telecoms provider Triangle Networks have been connecting businesses across Bristol. Paul Anslow, Managing Director at Triangle said: “We have had great feedback from our customers connected to CityFibre’s full-fibre network. “As our lives and working environments become increasingly digitised, connectivity plays a huge role in driving us forward. Now is the time for businesses in the city to future-proof their connectivity and discover the great benefits ultrafast broadband can offer. We ‘re excited to work with even more businesses across Bristol providing them with affordable connectivity.” For more information about CityFibre and Bristol’s Gigabit City project, visit: cityfibre.com/bristol ENDS
