Peterborough’s Gigabit City revolution reaches South Fengate

24 November 2017

Peterborough’s Gigabit City network is now reaching new areas of the city following its recent extension into Fengate Business Park. A 4km extension of CityFibre’s full-fibre digital infrastructure means an additional 150 businesses based in South Fengate will now benefit from Peterborough’s Gigabit City transformation. This latest investment in Peterborough’s digital infrastructure from CityFibre will allow even more local businesses to enjoy the benefits of full-fibre connectivity and align themselves with other connected business parks across the city including the wider Fengate area, Lynch Wood and Orton Southgate. CityFibre has been working in partnership with internet service provider (ISP) GreenCity Solutions to connect businesses across Peterborough with data management firm Jack Simons amongst the first South Fengate based customers to join the network. Poor connectivity meant the firm was struggling to transfer large quantities of data which they need to do on a regular basis. Since joining CityFibre’s network they no longer struggle with slow internet speeds and the business can run more efficiently. John Munton, managing director at Jack Simons, said: “Since joining CityFibre’s network we have enjoyed a noticeable increase in productivity, and issues around customers accessing their data online are now a thing of the past. Faster and lower-cost than a leased line, ultrafast connectivity is already changing our business - we couldn’t be happier.” Rob Baldacci, Managing Director, GreenCity Solutions, explained: “We’ve been working with CityFibre across Peterborough to transform the digital networks of businesses across the city. We’re really pleased to have connected the entire business park at Fengate, providing businesses that were previously reliant on slow and unreliable copper-based connections with affordable, next-generation connectivity and ultra-fast speeds.” Having transformed into a Gigabit City in 2013, Peterborough continues to grow its reputation as a digital hub. Early in the summer the city hosted the UK Government’s official launch of the Digital Infrastructure Investment Fund (DIIF) which aims to accelerate the roll-out of full-fibre infrastructure across the country. Neil Aspin, City Development Manager at CityFibre, added: “Peterborough is one of our flagship Gigabit Cities and a real jewel in the UK’s digital crown. The network expansion which now covers the whole of Fengate Business Park is testament to how successful the network has been across the city with more and more businesses taking advantage of ultrafast connectivity. “Peterborough has really embraced the new infrastructure having now secured a full-fibre digital footprint across both private and public sectors. Being chosen for the launch of the DIIF further highlights Peterborough’s excellent digital credentials and sincere ambition to be a leading city of the future.” To find our more or how to get your business connected, visit www.cityfibre.com/connect
